Q: What specifically speaks to your heart about healthcare data?

Healthcare data is the heartbeat of patient care. As a patient, ensuring care providers have the most accurate information can mean the difference between suffering and healing or even life and death. As care providers, having accurate data at the right time and place enables the best insights on how to understand the situation and make informed decisions for optimum care. It’s imperative that healthcare I.T. organizations invest the right amount of people, processes, and technology in enabling the best possible outcomes across the healthcare ecosystem.

Q: Where do you think healthcare is going — how can Clearsense help our industry get there?

A large-scale disruption of the healthcare industry across providers, payers, life sciences, research, and patients is already happening. Data is being generated at incredible volumes both inside and outside healthcare organizations as patient-reported data and IoT continue to evolve. Putting the patient at the center of care is critical to realizing a seamless, holistic and real-time capability to achieve the best outcomes. Clearsense recognizes the challenges of ingesting, transforming, and activating tremendous sets of disparate data across multiple systems to ultimately provide accurate insights to decision-makers, whether clinical, financial, or administrative. Healthcare decision-makers are best focused on quality and outcomes, not the technology platforms and services.

Q: What are you most passionate about in our industry and company?

From my early years working as an EMT, nursing, and medical specialist in the U.S. Air Force, I was fascinated by how technology could someday be used to improve patient care and the physician experience. Fast forward to today, and there are many examples of where technology is doing just that, from applying AI/ML for identifying cancer patterns and algorithms to autonomously detecting early signs of sepsis in very sick patients and alerting the care team for intervention. From diabetics using their smart devices to check blood sugars to all the advancements in physician dictation for more accurate data capture and reporting. It’s still exciting, very exciting to me, and I’m happy to be part of the innovation journey.

Q: What’s your biggest wish for healthcare data?

I would love to see: Ubiquitous access to patient data across all care providers, regardless of organization or affiliation, to ensure the best possible care and value is provided. That continues to be a tall order considering the challenges that exist today, especially around data exchange (interoperability), compliance mandated by the government, and the many obstacles that care providers face around utilizing electronic medical records to care for their patients. There is tremendous opportunity to improve in these areas, and Clearsense is making significant investments in its people, processes, and technology to help deliver this wish.

Q: Can you share a little about your data journey– how did you end up at Clearsense?

Working for very large healthcare and I.T. organizations over the past 20 years, I’ve had the opportunity to observe where technology can be a great fit to enable improved patient care. The common denominator has always been data. I wanted to bring my experience to a company that was as passionate about data as I was, and Clearsense impressed me with its platform and services leveraged by many of the leading healthcare providers, payers, and research organizations globally. Their people, leadership, and singular focus on enabling data to drive insights across clinical, financial, and administrative areas as trusted data stewards will play a major role in innovation across healthcare.
