Clearsense was recently featured in an analysis by HealthLeaders in "CIOs Need to Get a Handle on their Apps" by Eric Wicklund
HealthLeaders recently featured Clearsense and new survey findings conducted with College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), spotlighting a major gap in healthcare application portfolio management (APM).
The survey reveals that while more than three-quarters of healthcare CIOs consider application rationalization a high priority, only 20% have a formal program in place. Many organizations are still in planning stages or haven’t started at all, despite mounting financial, operational, and cybersecurity pressures.
With 60% of executives managing between 250 and 1,000 applications and some overseeing more than 3,000, inefficient portfolios are driving unnecessary OpEx, licensing costs, infrastructure burden, and cyber risk. Governance remains a key barrier, with many organizations relying on informal or ad hoc processes.
As HealthLeaders highlights, the findings underscore a significant opportunity for health systems to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and strengthen their data foundation, particularly as AI, digital health, and virtual care initiatives accelerate.
The takeaway: application rationalization isn’t just an IT cleanup exercise; it’s a strategic lever for financial performance and future innovation.
